I confess, I used to be a big procrastinator and sometimes I still fall into the deep hole of procrastination (Netflix, Youtube, Instagram, videogames etc…) but we have tasks to get done, right?
Then how can we stop getting distracted and waste time instead of hustling and reaching our goals?!
In this article, I’m going to give you the 10 tips I keep on using to stay focused and empty out your to-do list!
Stop punishing yourself
Blaming yourself about the things you haven’t done it’s going to make you waste even more time and in a bad mood you’re not going to start working on that paper that was due two weeks ago!
It’s ok if you wasted time but stop doing that NOW!
Plan, plan and plan
Schedule everything, especially the “hustle” time!
If you time batch your days, you won’t feel overwhelmed, but you will be more focused and excited about your tasks because you know that after the hard work you have 30min of netflix scheduled (for eg.).
Block any distractions
Turn on “do not disturb” mode on your phone, listen to lyric-less music and block distracting tabs on your browser.
Start small + 2min rule
“When you start a new habit, it should take less than two minutes to do.”
If a task seems too hard and you can’t even get started, use these tips!
Pick your big goal and break it down into smaller tasks!
For eg.:
You want to write a book but it seems like a huge thing to do, well… just start writing the first page.
Do you want to meditate every day? Start by sitting down and breathing deeply for 2 minutes.
This works with habits but it’s still great for any kind of task you want to tick off!
Stay motivated/inspired
Hang out with inspiring people and look for people who are successful the way you aspire to be, this will make it easier for you to start taking action to change your life!
ps: reading this blog is an example 😛
Change your environment
A messy room is not the perfect environment for productivity, so keep your desk clean and tidy. (omg I desperately need to tidy up my desk, I will schedule 20min for tomorrow).
Make some space for inspiring quotes, a visual board or your favourite pictures!
Be accountable
Share your goals and projects with someone else, this will motivate you a lot!
You could also share them with your social media followers, you wouldn’t want to disappoint them, right?
Keep your goals in front of you
When we procrastinate it’s because we don’t think of our goals, maybe we forgot why we want to achieve them, so try to keep your goals always in your mind.
Write them on your phone and put it as your lock screen, write them on a board you keep in your office, do whatever you can to remind yourself of your goals and, especially, the reasons why you want to accomplish them!
It’s better done than perfect
Keep it in mind!
Reward yourself
As I hinted earlier, try to schedule some me time after you’re done with your tasks.
Celebrate yourself, celebrate your wins (small or big)!
I hope these tips are helpful for your procrastination, for sure they’ve helped me!
